Travel fever season is upon us.

 

 

 

Most people romanticize the idea of travelling. For instance, we fantasize about taking a trip with the Orient Express to a remote and exotic place, sipping sickly sweet mint tea freshly plucked by the locals, then fall asleep in one of those heavily scented Moroccan pillows and finally meet a tall dark stranger who will change our life forever.
Well the nature of our job requires that we travel a fair bit, but nothing is EVER like the above. At most the high point of our travels would entail flashing our Easy Jet Speedy Boarding pass which is probably as luxurious as it gets.


So when we got sent over Bottega Venetta’s new short film “Viaggio Notturno” shot by Christian Weber we instantly developed a new fantasy: Forget about the tall dark stranger. We want the full Bottega Venetta travel set!

There were certainly a few surprised, raised eyebrows when it was announced that Simon Fuller’s company 19 Entertainment, were emersing themselves in the fashion world by aquiring a 51% stake in Storm Model Management. A deal that will give him access to some of the best known faces in the modelling world that will sit alongside his current portfolio of famous names including the Beckhams, Claudia Schiffer and Annie Lennox.



Along with the Storm deal, 19 Entertainment have also teamed up with fashion entrepreneur Sojin Lee to launch a brand new multi media platform that will be shaking up the online fashion world.

Fashionair launched today and it’s definatly something we’re stoked about as it houses all things fashion-related under one (digital) roof. We love the use of film on the website as it offers an insightful look into the wardrobes of creative young women in 7 Days of Chic and Style Profile (the video of Julia Restoin-Roitfeld and the content of her closet gives us serious wardrobe envy!).

Having read Sarah Water’s

The Little Stranger and getting immersed in its aesthetics, I do love next seasons trend featuring strong 1940s Film Noir Femme Fatales initiated by, for example, Dior with their maxed-out feminine power, glamour and elegance. Besides, how can looks for mysterious, duplicitous, seductive, promiscuous, self destructive and beautiful archetype of the femme fatale not be exciting?


On the shoot, the combinations of Margiela with Westwood, McQueen against Watanabe’s padded extravagance or Scervino’s leather on naked skin typified the mood.


The pairing of extreme and contradictory materials resulting in bold lines and dramatic silhouettes added to the already a strong look; creating an opulence totally displaced by the abandoned and run down setting. This gave the shoot a mysterious and other worldly feel, and with big hair and dark eyes the models seemed like untouchable evil temptresses or fallen angels.


Tule. Fur. Leather. Beads. Feathers. Platforms. Thigh highs. Ruffs. Padding. Shag pile. Mesh.


It’s time to buy a portable smoke machine (emerging mysteriously from hidden doorways) and a cigarette holder. Perfect your nonchalant dismissive gaze and husky voice. Drink whisky, peer through venetian blinds with dramatic single poise lamps, and find an innocent Bogart lookalike to lead astray…
