Today's POP is Ben, finding beauty in the ads of the 90s.

Like pneumatic blondes in a Guess double spread, sleek lines and precision cutting come as no surprise in a Jil Sander ad. Left in the safe hands of Willy Vanderperre and Oliver Rizzo, the suitably stark A/W 2010 campaign doesn’t disappoint on either front.

Shame the same can’t be said about the Robert Longo adverts for Bottega Veneta (would have been amazing to see what he could have done working with Raf Simons). In the effort to prove that the label has a history of iconic advertising, I got trawling the Jil Sander archives and came up with these beauties from spring/summer 1996 shot by Craig McDean.

The fact they don’t look dated might just have something to do with the current 90s resurgence, but I like to think it’s the legacy of a house that can hold onto its aesthetic, even when its owners and designers have moved on.

'I LIKE… SOME OF THE COATS… A LOT!'

Check this. Apart from being quote central ('Young, fresh and clean but no caffeine' anyone?) this A/W 1997/89 men's collections round up is WELL GOOD. The type, the proper models, the YOUNG designers that still seem really grown up, the STRONG clothes, it all looks WICKED. And is it just me or is Donna Karan quite FIT?

Today’s Pop is Max. For some reason we were never able to finish our Jil Sander for Uniqlo countdown. The picture for the last day got lost in the mix. We thought we’d remedy that by a little report on the launch from our very own Maxy.

Velvet ropes outside Uniqlo? It could only mean one thing, the +J Jil Sander collection has arrived. Bloggers, watches, gawpers and big money spenders (sort of) all turned up for a sneak preview launch of perhaps the classiest designer/high street collaboration to date. Quietly manic (you like to think Jil would want it that way), hooded felt and nylon parkas, simple marl grey suits and of course a lovely white shirt or two were all spotted. And the real success test? Well it’s already all over Ebay…

Today’s Pop is Max. He has the annoying habit of always wanting to edit things after they’ve gone up. Maxy – we just changed your title to ‘Editing Potentate’. But we’re more than happy to help.

They say all good things come in threes, and we’ve been watching Uniqlo’s three day count down to the launch of the Jil Sander +J collection with a silly smile on our faces. In short we can’t wait! POP was always gonna be a sucker for some exclusive yet fairly priced German minimalism, be it a slate grey wool v-neck, a shiny yet subtle puffa jacket or just a lovely pair of jeans. Global launch commences 10am this Thursday, and the Uniqlo 311 Oxford street flagship store, 170 Oxford Street, Westfield London and the ecommerce website uniqlo.com will be the first stores globally to sell the collection. Get ready for blast off!
