Today's POP is Daniel, wondering why models stopped being unhealthy.

Are models starting to talk about dieting? After years of claiming to subsist on cigarettes and fast food, thereby perpetuating an image of being able to eat anything – much to the irritation of women worldwide – models are jumping on the healthy lifestyle bandwagon.

POP 365 Tuesday 10 August 2010

Today's POP is Tui, reporting from LA, from a pool. I kid you not!

Besides from getting a puppy, my biggest childhood dream was to be a skater/surfer (same thing for me, well at least at that time).

Instead of a puppy I got a hamster called Gray and since my best friend was a Goth, not a skater-surfer, BFF solidarity decided it for me. So when I was offered the chance to go to LA and re-live my lost teenage years at the US Open of Surfing, one of the biggest action sports festivals around, I could hardly say no! Alas, here we are, at Huntington Beach, thanks to the industry's most important key players: Hurley, Nike 6.0 and Converse.

Amid the craziness I had a moment with skateboard sensational Kenny Anderson.

POP: What is your association with Converse?
Kenny Anderson: The first time or the second time?

POP 364 Monday 9 August 2010

Today's POP is Ben, filled with Anger.

If I'm still coming up with the goods at 83, like Kenneth Anger is with his new campaign for Missoni, I'll be a happy, albeit old, man. The Scorpio Rising legend has directed knitwear's first family in a psychodrama-cum-lookbook, wearing pieces from their collection for autumn/winter. Can't be sure whether the Missoni clan are fully down with Anger's occult-laden, Aleister Crowley-loving ways or not, but they seem to be having a good time all the same.

For a quick Kenneth Anger's greatest hits, covering a few cinematic styles, check this Youtube top three.

Today's POP is Kiwi Speaks, divulging secret dreams and memories.

Tweed, cashmere
chunky knits, links
Union Jacks and chains.
What more could a pretty grunge princess ask for?

Kiwi Speaks goes all poetic when discovering the relaunch of Fake London. Read it here.

POP 361 Wednesday 4 August 2010

Today’s POP is Tui, sexing it up … in a good way … Erm, let's just stop there.

If body conscious silhouette and graphic lines are what you’re searching for, look no further! British-born, Russian-based textile designer Clare Lopeman’s collection is exactly what it says on the can.

POP 360 Tuesday 3 August 2010

Today's POP is Shala. Coming to you straight from the set of a Mario Testino shoot.

“Glamour, I want Shala in glamour.” That’s the pronouncement Mario Testino made on set for V Magazine. “Slicked back, I want it slick, very eighties, Studio 54, very glam.” Meanwhile my hair is in a big afro. I look around and there’s not a black person doing hair on the set. “Are you sure Mario, I mean it could take a while, to get this kink out of my hair you’re going to have to wet it.”

We decided to do something similar to what I’d done for the Met Ball, but that was still asking for trouble. Oribe, the head hair stylist did not seem fazed, in his trunk among all kinds of contraptions to tame an untame the wildest hair was a line of his own products. I must say I loved Oribe’s approach to doing hair. His philosophy is that a woman knows her hair best and the best way is to listen to what she has to say.

Long story short, if you’re tying to look as swanky as Josephine Baker, or a silver screen siren in two seconds, wet your hair and put some Rock Hard Gel in there and you’re good to go, to the disco, dance till dawn, break a sweat but not your do.

POP 359 Monday 2 August 2010

Today's POP is Ben, finding beauty in the ads of the 90s.

Like pneumatic blondes in a Guess double spread, sleek lines and precision cutting come as no surprise in a Jil Sander ad. Left in the safe hands of Willy Vanderperre and Oliver Rizzo, the suitably stark A/W 2010 campaign doesn’t disappoint on either front.

In the last issue of german culture bible 032c there's a feature on American Gigolo and Richard Gere's Giorgio Armani clothes in the movie. He looks startingly modern. So it comes as no surprise that Giorgio Armani launches Frames for life, an updated version of their 80s glasses. Check out the styles after the jump.
