Today's POP is Lily singing Surf's Up by the Beach Boys on repeat in the car.
Meet Jeanette Lai Thomas. If you're not familiar with her already, she's the brainchild and designer of Moratorium, the Brooklyn based, minimalist jewelry label to top all the New York girls’ autumn wish lists.
POP sat down with Jeanette for a cup and a chat…
How did you get into jewellery?
I’ve always been fascinated by and attracted to jewelry, but it wasn’t until I moved to Amsterdam in 2009 that I was able to try silversmithing. I quickly fell in love with the creative process and the act of turning my ideas into physical pieces. With the encouragement of a few good friends in the creative industry, I embraced it as a career and have never looked back!
Who or what inspires you?
Geometric shapes and patterns - I’m drawn to the lines and the relationships between positive and negative space. If I find a shape that is inspiring, I look to strip it down to its skeletal frame.
Your favourite structure?
The pyramid: it is the strongest structure known to man, yet it is also simultaneously simple and elegant. It is a central component of Moratorium.
5 things you love about NYC?
1. The hustle. People really believe they can make it here and are not afraid of trying.
2. The food. There are not enough meals in the week for me to eat everything I’d like to!
3. The diversity. There’s something here for everyone and anyone. I love the different walks of life and routines that intersect each other every day and night here.
4. The accessibility of everything. Whatever you want, whenever you want it.
5. I love that it is a pedestrian city as walking around provides me with so much inspiration. There is always someone or something interesting when you wander around this city. Sometimes I will get off a few stops earlier on my subway line just so I can walk more to get to my destination.
Other designers to look out for?
I’m kind of obsessed with Iris Van Herpen. It’s awe inspiring how she creates fabrics, textures

Today's POP is Alice & Theo with Ideas – or the first of what is now a fortnightly exclusive for thepop.com!
Autumn in England is always tricky. One day you need thermals and the next you need sunscreen. I don't know how many times I've said 'today is really the start of winter', only to wake up to blue skies and have to unpack the clothes I've crammed under my bed for next spring. Like an Agatha Christie novel or an episode of Holiday Showdown, it's tough to know what's coming next. But the combination of a hat and a roll neck may be the solution to this eternal problem. A hat can both shield the eyes from sun and keep in body heat, while a roll neck is the cosy but light alternative to a mid season jacket. For mild days, why not try a cotton roll neck with a waterproof bucket hat? And when the days get nippier, a roll neck in lambs wool or cashmere is a perfect teammate for a knitted beanie.

Today's POP is Malena. When in Rome… Check out Gagosian?
If you're in Rome, or planning to visit, make sure you visit Rachel Feinstein’s exhibition at Gagosian Gallery. For her first exhibition in the Italian city, Rachel worked on a site-specific installation around the main gallery's oval space. Wallpaper lines the interior walls with images of recognisable sites in Rome. Small paintings super imposed on the wallpaper and four large sculptures echoing classical masterpieces make this exhibition come together with strength and at the same time, a humble homage to the greatest city.
The mirror piece in the adjacent smaller gallery is also a wonderful space and seeing your reflection amongst Roman monuments in Rome gives you a sense, if only brief, of being part of something magnanimous and ethereal.

Today's POP is Cyber POP. From Prada to Proenza.
Video Games have played a major role in the 21st century and more and more, their representations make the agenda of fashion and art discourse.
Our Spring/Summer '12 ARENA HOMME+ explored these ideas with a Final Fantasy/Prada project, as have contemporary artists such as Helen Benigson aka. Princess Belsize Dollar (see our interview here).
Here they become a part of an ongoing dialogue between the physical and virtual, reality and fantasy.
For their third film (in a series of incredible experimental moving image collection stories), Proenza Schouler explore the phenomenon Second Life, with avatars avatars sporting looks from the designers' Autumn/Winter '12 collection.
We just had to share.
