Last night saw the opening party of Monki's first-ever London store and let me tell you, it was major.

The Carnaby Street space welcomed colourful canapes, an array of Swedish beverages including Briska cider, Purity vodka and Pistonhead beer, enough jellybelly's to go around and a lash booth suiting guests with Shimmer Twins' 'Treasure Lashes', all in a phantasmagoria of quirky installations.

In-house Architect and head of interior concepts Catherina Frankander made it down from Sweden to celebrate the incredible new space, imagined by her and her team.

Back in Gothernburg, we sat down with Frankander to get some insight on her process and what she had been planning for the new store. After completing her studies in London, Catherina moved back to Sweden to begin her design buisness but it was not long after a few contract jobs that she joined the Monki team full time, heading up their in-house Interior Concepts division. With her team, Catherina draws inspiration from far and wide with a strong emphasis on nature. Coined the "Sea of Scallops", this space is a recurrent Monki favourite which transports you into a fantastical underwater world. There's really nothing like it.

Have a wander over to Carnaby street. It's like stepping through the looking glass, but instead of the mushrooms and cats, you'll find a mirage of a Swedish underwater world…

Susan Caplan has pulled a few hidden gems out from under her sleeve.

Last week we hit up Oxford street to check out the native Londoner's latest sub-collection of 90's Versace finds. Exclusively for Selfridges, London, the pieces sat proudly within Caplan's cabinet in the store's contemporary accessories section. A vintage Versace bodypiece sittin' pretty as the display's focal point.

If only we could get a few tips on how to hunt retro treasures like she does…

POP had a quick chat with the lady herself.

How did you get started? How did you learn to scout and source vintage jewellery?

My family instilled in me, from a very young age, a love for art and history. I travelled the world at 18 on the QEII where I began to pick up pieces and from this, developed a hobby for buying and selling antiques. I continued this for over 30 years and in 2008 I rebranded to Susan Caplan Vintage Collection and specialised in vintage jewellery after noticing a gap in the market for quality contemporary vintage jewellery. I learnt to source through years of practice! I know what I like now and I have gained so much knowledge over the years and met so many people that I feel privileged to be able to source easily now. I have exceptionally high expectations of pieces of vintage jewellery. I only buy incredibly well crafted, well designed and pieces in remarkable condition. It is only through years of experience that I know where to go for pieces that match the standards I have set.

Where do you source your pieces?

From all over the world. I travel regularly to all corners of the globe including Europe, USA, Japan etc. I have built up a vast network of people who I trust and regularly work with. They now know what I like and what I buy so I often get a phone call to let me know if they think there is something that I should see.

What is the most interesting piece you've ever found?

In terms of vintage jewellery it is certainly the vintage Versace bodypiece at Selfridges. Not least of all for its relevance in contemporary fashion right now but also for its detailing and embellishment – something that Giannni Versace was renowned for. If I'm talking about antiques it easily has to be a 19th century Minton vase that I bought for a mere £2 knowing it was damaged. At the time I enjoyed dabbling in restoration and so thought that I would repair it when I had the chance. After a year of it sitting in my garage without any restoration I decided to put it into a Christie's auction where it sold for over £2000.

How do you feel about the term "vintage"? Do you find it to be overused or incorrectly used at all today?

I feel that it is often used inappropriately. The term vintage should be applied to an item from a previous era – often used to refer to pieces that compliment the revival of a fashion period. These days it's a term that is used too freely. I've seen pieces that are 3 years old being coined vintage. I believe that it should be a carefully used word and the danger with vintage enjoying a fashion resurgence is that people begin to generalise and forget its true origins. With that comes misappropriate usage.

What are your plans for the brand?

We have lots of plans in the pipeline with our main focus right now being the vintage Versace collection at Selfridges, London and the launch of Susan Caplan Vintage Collection in Selfridges, Manchester Exchange in their new accessories hall. There is lots more to come in 2012!

London’s YHS (young, hot ‘n’ stylish) crowd congregated in Knightsbridge last Thursday night for the launch of the new Tommy Hilfiger flagship store. Walking through the door of the premium lifestyle brand transported us from the drizzly London pavement into the preppy American Dream.

Situated in the heart of the luxury-shopping destination of Brompton Road, the store will be the third largest in Europe. It encapsulates the signature Hilfiger aesthetic with bare brick and wooden décor and is packed with wardrobe staples such as cosy knitwear and classic denim and shirts, spread across 2 spacious floors. The new store stocks the mainline Tommy Hilfiger range as well as the Hilfiger runway collection.

The question on every girls lips was how to get the attention of the chiseled, Adonis-esque barstaff who were all kitted out in Tommy Hilfiger checked shirts and khakis. (“I’ll have another Apple Strudl cocktail please!!”) And if the fashion crowd weren’t distracted by the perfectly formed staff or clothes then there was a plethora of beautiful celebrities – all adorned in Tommy Hilfiger – for the voyeur to enjoy, including Chloe Moretz, Douglas Booth, Dominic Cooper, Tali Lennox, Naomi Harris and our POP cover girl Georgia Jagger, with the unfairly gorgeous Leigh Lezark of the Misshapes behind the decks.

Mr Hilfiger, himself, was there milling amongst celebs and civilians alike, looking thrilled at the opening of the store and the expansion of his empire. I’ll definitely be popping back soon for some winter classics (and another gander at those beautiful Hilfiger boys!)

When Rugby Ralph Lauren decided to participate in the already-established annual Tweed Run takeover in the cobbled streets of London’s Covent Garden, who else was there to invite but the cast of Made In Chelsea?

Occupying the city with civilized style of course, the cast joined hundreds of others in a harem poised on Pashleys, donned in tweed from head to toe complete with flat caps and the occasional pipe for good measure.

Following the success of the first Rugby Tweed Run which took place this October in NYC, Rugby Ralph Lauren decided to inject their classic American heritage into the London event beginning with the 12-mile leisurely ride at the site of their first store in Covent Garden.

With a chance to nab titles such as ‘best vintage bicycle’ and ‘most dapper chap’, and that decidedly British institution, the raffle (but with a much better prize on offer including a Pashley bicycle), the event this past Saturday 26^th November saw guests such as Erin O’Connor, Bip Ling as well as the ultimate blogger couple Style Salvage and Style Bubble also in attendance.

Off on a route dotting from Whitehall to Buckingham Palace and onto Chelsea, with plenty of tea breaks on the way… Amber Atherton from Made in Chelsea took the time to recount her ride and marvel on the transforming effect of men in tweed for us.

Tweed is a fabric that is twee, classic and functional at once. How do you integrate such an old material into your current wardrobe?

I think a full tweed get-up looks marvelous on men. However as a woman, I personally like to add subtle elements of the material into an everyday look. Whether that's a Rugby Ralph Lauren blazer or waistcoat, it adds a classic British touch to any modern wardrobe.

In it's first year, the Tweed Run ride began at the Rugby store in Covent Garden. Where in London did the ride lead you to? And did you encounter any mishaps along the way?

The cobblestones at Covent Garden proved the start of our path as bumpy but this soon lead through to smooth tarmac and we were off through Trafalgar Square and onto Buckingham Palace where we mixed up the anticipated changing of the guard – much to the tourist’s delight! Mishaps were few and far between due to the phenomenal guidance of the marshals who shut off roads and sort of held our hand along the way.

What did you decide to wear for the Rugby tweed run?

I decided to nod to Ralph Lauren's American heritage and teamed a pine green baseball jacket with a chunky cream cable knit and gold lace brocade shorts and woolly tights – bringing my tweed element in through a most delightful pair of Rugby Ralph Lauren ear muffs.

Fashion and cycling; does practicality rule or is it more a matter of getting that perfect match with your Pashley?

Pashley's practically demand demure, heritage inspired attire which RL is perfect for. In the pursuit of a leisurely cycle rather than destination specific, the practicality rule is rubbed off the chalk board.

The Tweed Race and the Rugby brand both embrace heritage with a contemporary metropolitan twist. Where in would your dream ride take you?

My dream bike ride would start on the wall of China and lead me up to Tibet down to India a short boat ride over to Indonesia and down to the vast plains of Australia. Well actually, a perfectly pleasant dream bike ride takes me up to Hampstead Heath – whilst out of breath, the view is your reward!

This year the Rugby Tweed Run raised funds to benefit the World Bicycle Relief. Through their Bicycles for Educational Empowerment Program, the organisation provides 50,000 bicycles to improve rural Zambian children's access to education.

Today's POP is Lola. Risky Business will never get old.

Last week East London’s Village Underground hosted the launch of Ray-Ban’s exciting new project: "Raw Sounds".

The project has been created by the Smiths’ guitarist, and love of my life, Johnny Marr, who has asked a range of artists including Au Revoir Simone, Tom Vek and Best Coast, to create new tracks inspired by works from various disciplines.

The venue was packed with press, musicians and celebs. Our favourite sighting was Fazer, who looked babe in in his Ray-Bans. We sipped our indulgent and slightly lethal fruity cocktails whilst watching Tom Vek perform some live music as well as DJ sets from the Mystery Jets.

But I'm still thinking about Fazer…

This week Laura & I missioned south to Brixton's Coldharbour gallery to see photographer Venetia Dearden's latest exhibition co-hosted by Joie.

We arrived at the door only to see a red-wigged woman swallowing batons of fire. Inside the space, men were serving falafels, home-made hummus, veggies and sprouts along with glasses of both red and white. We knew it would be a good night….

Dearden's work took her to America & Nevada's Burning Man festival where she documented her experience there as well as her life on the road. Part Antonioli's Zabriskie Point, Part Kerouac's On the Road, the multitude of images including large-scale digital prints, black and white polaroids and a complimentary short film were highly romantic and left us completely drooling.

If Kerouac didn't make you want to get out of England and head for America, Dearden just might…

Today's POP is Alice G at DSM's Open House.

I've noticed recently that the majority of my blog posts focus quite heavily on food and drink. But hey, what else do you go to a party for?

Recently the Rose Bakery laid out a delicious spread of sausage rolls and carrot cake for Dover Street Market's 'Open House'.

Open House is a series of events that Dover Street Market hosts once per year. This year the evening kicked off with Carine Roitfeld signing copies of her new book 'Irreverent'.

Each floor showcased a different spectacle; James Salaiz's Bullet Sculptures were displayed on the third floor, the second floor celebrated the launch of SOME/THINGS magazine along with a Super 8 film by Paul Harnden and Stuart Pitkin’s. Rei Kawakubo’s colourful hut took over the ground floor, while customers were invited to design their own pair of Dr. Martens in the basement.

As always, a great evening at DSM!

shop on Portobello Road hosted the perfect lunch recently, in the shadow of the Trellick Tower, which POP had the pleasure of being invited to. Olives, salad, perfect pork, salmon and spinach, TWO kinds of pizza, calamari AND salted chocolate tart with pear sorbet. Oh, plus some very nice mens + womens bags, a beautiful wooden parquet floor made from reclaimed gym flooring and lovely shop staff. What more could you ask for?

Better late than never: our Paris Fashion Week Party round-up!

Givenchy had some strong support. The party had a pretty serious guest-list including Kanye West, Liv Tyler, and every editor in between. Definitely a memorable night!

We also enjoyed an evening with Natasha Poly and Jaime Bochert at the D Squared party.

And last but not least, the fantastic new club Silencio designed by my #1 favourite filmmaker David Lynch.

For my fellow Lynch fans, you'll find the space (and it's name) eerily familiar. He has realised the club from Mulholland Drive. Do check it out if you get a chance, it's definitely worth a visit! For now, enjoy Emanuele's pictures.
