I love smoking! Well actually, let me rephrase that, I USED to love smoking. I was someone who would happily puff away throughout my day. I loved everything about smoking, connotations included, and never in a million years would I have imagined a departure from my beloved fag. In short: Quitting my fags was NEVER AN OPTION.
That wasn't until my friend tried and tested the book and swore by it. 'Why not give it a try?' I thought, 'after all, I’ve arrived at an age where I probably should look into quitting…' So with strong hesitation, scepticism and cynicism, I agreed to the challenge and signed up for the session.
2 weeks later I found myself travelling down to The Allen Carr Clinic, located in SW20. Having never ventured beyond south of Camberwell, I thought to myself 'what am I actually doing and why do I do this to myself?!'. When I arrived at the clinic I was greeted by a very sweet lady who asked me to fill out a questionnaire about my smoking habit. Around me sat other ‘addicts’. I felt like I was in a cult meeting (not like I’ve ever done that before…). Throughout the 5 hour session, regular cigarette breaks were provided and towards the final stages of the seminar, our coach announced that we were about to smoke our last cigarette. The session ended with 20 minutes of hypnotherapy and I left the clinic deeply unimpressed and utterly unconvinced. I didn’t feel different, I didn’t look different, and I definitely didn’t feel like a non-smoker.
Boy was I fooled! 3 months have passed and I have not had a single drag since my last cigarette at the seminar. What happened in SW20 you might ask? To be honest, I'm not really sure. Did they brainwash me? Maybe just a little bit, and to be honest, I'm thankful that they did.
