Today's POP is Jasmine. Shoreditch, you've finally been saved.

Having lived around East London for the last 6 years, the status quo is that things keep moving East. Things that were once fringe become homogonised, a Pret/Starbucks/All Bar One opens, prices go up, the crowds change, the locals get bored and frustrated, and then they move further out. This ouroboros-like pattern has meant that Clapton has become the new London Fields which became the new Dalston which became the new Shoreditch, and so on and so forth. It is unusual that anything happens in Shoreditch nowadays that doesn't summon a groan from the people who once moved into the area because it was unique, and have now moved on to find a new patch to call their own.

Basing House. Where, you ask? Basing House, slap bang in the heart of Shoreditch. Really? Yes. Whilst rolling down Kingsland Road (in an Eastwardly direction) after dinner at our favourite Vietnamese restaurant, a poster caught my eye, mainly due to two words:

Kenny and Larkin. This might not mean much to a lot of you, but it means a lot to me. When I was 12, my brother (very cool and 8 years older than me) bought me my first techno album. I was pretty young and thought it was kind of weird, but I knew it was something special. Over the last 17 years, it has become one of my favourite records ever released. It was called Azimuth.

Hailing from Detroit, Larkin was a firm member of a group of electronic artists who changed dance music history. He has released records on Warp, R&S, Plus 8 Records, Peacefrog and Distance, and sometimes records under the pseudonym Dark Comedy. Thanks to Simmer and Basing House, Friday 29th July is going to see Shoreditch transformed to its former glory, with Larkin playing alongside Jon Rust (Builder Room) and Richard Adam (Simmer). A massive salute to both venue and promoters for putting together such a fine line up, and getting one of the most seminal musicians of the last 20 years playing out to E2. You'd be a fool to miss it.
