It's that exciting time of the year when we get to see what the cream of the crop have been devoting their life to over the last 2 years at the RCA MA show. I was lucky enough to pop along to the Private View at the south ken venue… Oh my gaawwwwd what an impressive show. This venue hosts a variety of specialisms but it was the Textile department which really caught my eye. One Designer in particular was Kate Miles who's smoke bombed prints and furniture are so beautiful and awe-inspiring that we think everyone should have one in their house!

POP caught up with Kate to get her to explain the complex process behind her Collection:
POP: What/ who inspires your work?
KM: I was really inspired by designers such as Studio Glithero and Max Lamb whose products are the result of beautiful or engaging processes.

POP: Explain your technique and how you came about this?
KM: My starting point was capturing a moment in time, I started drawing using smoke bombs, mapping the progress of wisps of smoke across paper. When I started to make my own smoke bombs the marks became more chaotic and I began to design three and two dimensional surfaces using various print and industrial techniques, in order to have some control over the slightly unusual medium.
