Quick POP 5 questions for Italo Zucchelli, Men’s Creative Director, Calvin Klein Collection.

Q1. What was the starting point for this S/S12 collection?
A1. My collections for spring are always more athletic and sporty. This collection started with a digital image that I saw, and I worked on developing materials to evoke the feeling of that image. This collection is about hyper dimension, where everything is magnified – this can be seen in the fabrics, the textures, and the proportions – which is an extension of elements of the Fall 2011 collection.

Q2. You seem to be developing a silouette based on strong male proportions. Are you designing with a specific man in mind?
A2. I always design with a particular man in mind. Men nowadays are much more health conscious and take care of themselves. My collections are versatile, and so we always have several different fits, but they do work well on a man who is in good shape.

Q3. How important is the show soundtrack to you? Do you work with someone specific on the music?
A3. I work with Frederic Sanchez on the music. Yes, the show music is very important, as it helps to create an atmosphere to echo and complement what I am presenting.

Q4. The last show had a resonance of a military man returning home, the straightforward suit, the steel colors, the buzz cut, etc. With that in mind would it be fair to say current world events can have an influence on the collection?
A4. I think that everything happening around you, and in the world at large, influences your perspective and your work.

Q5. Where was the last place you traveled to that excited you?
A5. Berlin. I feel it has an atmosphere of a city in the middle of a revolution where art is flourishing; a city, where young artists, new music and ideas can be expressed. I saw similarities to New York City in the 1970’s.
