The mood of the new season: 'anti-trollope'. It just has to be. Just enough with all these unhappy gaunt fashionista sheep with their It heels and stoopid attempts at looking "wealthy" via an over-priced bag.

In Milano, POP is giving a big round of applause this season to Antonio Marras, who is ploughing a different furrow to much of this city. Combining vintage aprons with beautiful modern fabrics and deconstructing the classic British trenchcoat in a way that Christopher Bailey might wish to investigate (!), Marras is defining a modernity in fashion that others seem to fear… For now.
A true designer with a consistent, distinctive voice is a rarity in contemporary fashion. With the 40th anniversary of Kenzo occuring in Paris next week, Antonio Marras has the opportunity to make this industry really stop and have a think…
But a rethink?
"A thing of beauty is a joy forever," intoned the poet John Keats as Marras sent out a subtle Milan masterclass.
