POP 308 Friday 4 June 2010

Today's evening POP is Sofia, who is not quite herself because of the nebulosity of the London sky.

There are never enough words to describe a man. With his installation Who’s the man, Rudy De Belgeonne is trying to sum them all up – about a thousand. As far as aphorisms go, I am sure women around the world would come up with at least one million of them, though a thousand is always a good start.

With the repetition of the pictures and the bright colours it's impossible not to think of Pop Art, though it's now time to stop comparing and instead look with fresh eyes. The installation is a five meter puzzle of rectangular, small red, pink and green handwritten idioms such as "big banana", "action hero", "kid", "rugger rugger", "psycho" and "tiger".

Provoked, you will giggle, cogitate or dismiss them.

So dear women of the world, whether you are:

1) Madly in love with your man.

2) Disappointed because you received a dishwasher instead of a ring for your birthday.

3) Embarrassed because he is picking his nose at your best friend's wedding.

4) Ecstatic because after a nightmare day at work he opens the door with a bottle of Barolo.

Whatever the case, this exibition is a call to reminding ourselves of why we love and hate these creatures called men.

Who's the Man is showing until June 8 at the Future Gallery. Check out the artwork at the
