Today’s POP is Sofia, at the Salone del Mobile 2010, dreaming about her perfect hideaway.
Back To Roots
We all know there is always a philosophy behind Giorgio Armani's work. It's not by chance that his biggest house store has just opened in the same street where he once started back in the 80's with a little shop. Symbolically, it is tracing a humble mark in history of where he was and where he is now.
You know those houses where the architecture lacks so much in space that you can't move because the sink is on top of the dining table, the couch is so massive that to go to the bathroom you have to jump out of the window and the bathtub is so small that the last time you fitted in was in grade 6? Well you will not be seeing any of this here. There is no shortage of air, no invasion or impossibility of movement. An orchestra of simplicity, luxurious lines, silk forms and clear spaces is what you will experience. Space seems to have a fundamental importance in his view of the house and the aesthetic of his clothes and ethereal being are fully expressed in his designs here more than ever. As Thomas Mann once quoted "Space like time, engenders forgetfulness: but it does so by setting us bodily free from our surroundings and giving us back our primitive unattached state”.
In simple words, you have space to be yourself in Armani's home.
I know what you are thinking looking thorough these pictures. The bathtub looks more comfortable than a bed and yes, I did want to jump in with a glass of wine. The board by the kitchen is very spacious and yes, I felt like covering it with confusing ingredients and cook for all the guests. The mirrors of the bathrooms are gigantic and yes, you better get in shape before you get one of these because you will get a 360 degree view of your thighs.
Of course, Giorgio Armani's superman plans for this year do not stop here. He is opening a Hotel in Dubai, a resort in Marrakech and residences in Egypt. I really wonder… what are you thinking about now?
More pics after jump!
