First time in Paris y’all and I’m in love!!!! What’s a girl in love to do? Hang out with my pal Tavi and go see some art!
Tavi and I crashed Dior backstage and gave Dasha and Ben Stiller a run for their money with Tavi’s version of “blue steel” …wait ….or was it “magnum”…. anyway… I left her in the thick of things (hounded by film crews and paparazzi – sorry Tavi!) to skip down the road to see the Christian Boltanski installation at the

Grand Palais.

The third in the Monumenta series, following Anselm Kiefer and Richard Serra, Christian Boltanski makes a bold impact in one of the city’s most beautiful buildings.
Personnes (literally both “people” and “nobodies”) takes up a new theme in Boltanski’s work, building on his earlier explorations of the limits of human existence and the vital dimension of memory : the question of fate, and the ineluctability of death. The work has an industrial feel, machines, clunking sounds, used clothing on the floor. Its reminiscent of an industrial work place, a sorting ground, a place where things are left to be destroyed, removed, recycled. The use of clothing evokes memories, clothing being so personal, each item with a story to tell, yet abandoned or forcibly removed …someone said the piece was in remembrance of the victims of the holocaust. I’m not sure if that’s true, but there is a sadness of these abandoned items, being repeatedly lifted into the air and released just to float back down and join the pile again.

As part of MONUMENTA 2010, Christian Boltanski will continue his project to create the Archives du cœur, a collection of recorded human heartbeats.. Visitors are invited to record their own heartbeat and offer it to the artist. You have the option to take your heartbeat home/offer it to a loved one…. Valentines soon… I definitely have someone in mind.x
