Today’s Pop is Juliette. We believe her mother is the Goddess Aphrodite. But we’re not sure, perhaps it’s Athena we’re thinking of… Anyways, all is fair in Love and War.

Larry Gagosian just opened his 9th installment in Athens on the 25th of September. Art lovers from all over the world has since rained down on the small little Athens capsule to watch

There’s little doubt of the imprint the Gagosian galleries have left on the world of contemporary art. Larry has throughout the years given us some of the most memorable exhibitions from the likes of Damien Hirst, Jeff Koons, Ed Ruscha, Douglas Gordon, Piotr Uklanski and many more. With the recent opening of the Athens space, another piece in The Gagosian gallery’s global puzzle has been added. The exhibition space is located in the center of the city, with designer Michelle Ballard making sure the venue is up to par with the Gagosian standards.

The inaugural exhibition, Cy Twombly’s ‘Leaving Paphos Ringed with Waves’ was inspired by a line written by the poet Alkman announcing the departure of the warrior Sesostris II from Paphos, a city sacred to goddess Aphrodite. The exhibition consists of four canvas’ showing boats in flames juxtapose a turquoise background, embroidered with yellow color writing.
A historic city and a famous gallery. An impressive artist with an even more impressive exhibition. The ideal combination.
