Todays Pop is James. He happens to be the sibling of someone at Pop. But more importantly, he’s a Turner Prize Nominee.
In a boarded up flat that looks like a stash house from the Wire, pops up another oasis of art in South London. Peculiarly situated in the heart of one of Elephant and Castle’s most charming council estates, this work is a brand spanking new Artangel commission.
I reluctantly wade through unknown territory and chicken bones to find a queue of wayfarer and brogue wearing art junkies lined up to get their next hit of “pop up” art from Turner prize nominated Roger Hiorns and his new work Seizure.
After 30mins in the queue Wilhelm the manchild and I enter the flat to discover what looks like Supermans bedroom in Krypton, covered from wall to wall (and ceiling and bathtub) with millions of giant blue copper sulphate crystals protruding from every possible surface. It really is Superman on crack. You have to see it for yourself….. South London is really where its at.
Have a nosey on your way down to Franks Campari bar in Peckham.
