POP 085/ Wednesday, 26 August 2009
Today’s Pop is Becky. She is finally back from her extended vacation in France, having left the POP team in a cold sweat due to deadline pressure. They’ve cursed her, calling her every name under the sun (but that would be the same sun that magically tanned her ass!). Brown bummed, she hot foot it to look at some pretty spectacular works from George Taylor – our kind of girl…

‘ Leda’ 5 Foot sq
George Taylor is from another world. She makes ethereally beautiful works. Moulded pieces from fiber glass and feathers. They are concave at their centre which citifies and amplifies sound. One six foot piece of work can take 650 hours of labour. Each Feather has its plume taken off, the quill cut down and then individually attached.
“The use of feathers definitely puts the work in a different category for me…sculpture especially and symbolically the feathers give the feeling of transcendence. “

‘ Little Death ‘ 6 Foot sq
Influenced by the “cycle of life” Taylor was brought up on a farm and witnessed life and death from an early age, with cows giving birth, she was right in there amongst the blood and guts. It seems apt that she would transform the day to day rawness of farm life into something so very powerful and beautiful (but with great delicacy…).

‘ Sex Death Sex Death Sex Death’ 6 Foot sq
Represented by Pangolin London, Taylor has a show approaching in the new year.
